Electrical fire cleanup
Wiring fires hide damage inside walls. It has to be opened and checked.
Electrical fires often start inside walls, panels or appliances. Even when the visible damage is small, heat and smoke can travel along the wall cavity, so the area is usually opened up and inspected before it is cleaned and repaired.

Questions
Should I turn the power back on after an electrical fire?
No. Leave the breaker off until an electrician has inspected the wiring and panel. Damaged wiring can start another fire.
Why is the smell strongest near the outlets?
Burned wire insulation and plastics give off a sharp, chemical smell, and smoke travels through wall cavities and comes out at outlets and switches. That residue needs cleaning inside the wall.
